Printed in Cuba: The Book

PRINTED IN CUBA is a collaborative art project initiated by Margarit Lehmann (Swiss) in cooperation with Aliosky Gracía (Cuba) and Lian Ng (USA). It is an experiment of artistic and socio-political dimensions: not Cuban art in America or Swiss art in Cuba, but joint work in a tri-national cooperation. The project brought together 19 artists from Cuba, USA and Switzerland to collaborate on a collection of unique prints using lithography, collagraphy, etching, pressure and relief printing techniques. The artists created layers on the same print in response to each other to result in a finished piece that does not represent a singular artist but of a collective whole. In 2017, from April 13 to 22, the Taller Experimental de Gráfica de la Habana hosted the PRINTED IN CUBA project. The Taller provided the artists with assistance from three Master Printers: Ian Marcos, Pedro Redonet, and Guillermo Vantour. A performative introduction was guided by Maikel Rodríguez de la Cruz. The results concluded with an exhibition at their onsite gallery, before traveling to Zürich, Basel and San Francisco. The exhibition was accompanied by a video-art project from Mimi von Moos. PRINTED IN CUBA es un proyecto de arte colab-orativo iniciado por Margarit Lehmann (Suiza) en colaboración con Aliosky García (Cuba) y Lian Ng (EEUU). Un experimento de dimensiones artísticas y sociopolíticas: no el arte cubano en Estados Unidos o el arte suizo en Cuba, sino el trabajo conjunto en cooperación trinacional. El proyecto reunió a 19 artistas de Cuba, EE.UU. y Suiza para colaborar en una colección de estampas única que utiliza las técnicas de litografía, colagrafía, cal-cografía, xilografía y grabado. Los artistas fueron creando capas de una misma estampa en respuesta entre sí para dar como resultado una pieza terminada que no representase a un artista en particular, sino a todo el colectivo. El proyecto PRINTED IN CUBA se llevó a cabo entre el 13 y el 22 de abril de 2017 en el Taller Experimental de Gráfica de la Habana. El proyecto contó con la asistencia de los impresores Ian Marcos, Pedro Redonet y Guillermo Vantour. La introducción de performance fue guiada por Maikel Rodríguez de la Cruz. Los resultados concluyeron con una exposición en la galería del Taller, antes de viajar a Zúrich, Basilea y San Francisco. La exposición estuvo acompañada por un proyecto de videoarte de Mimi von Moos.

PRINTED IN CUBA ist ein kollaboratives Projekt initiiert von Margarit Lehmann (Schweiz) in Zusammenarbeit mit Aliosky García (Kuba) und Lian Ng (USA). Es ist ein Experiment von künstlerischer und gesellschaftspolitischer Dimension: nicht kubanische Kunst in Amerika oder Schweizer Kunst in Kuba, sondern gemeinsame Arbeit in einer trinationalen Kooperation. Das Projekt brachte neunzehn KünstlerInnen aus Kuba, den USA und der Schweiz zusammen, um eine Sammlung von Einzeldrucken in den Techniken der Lithografie, Collagrafie, Radierung und Hochdruck zu erstellen. Die KünstlerInnen erstellten Schichten auf demselben Druck als Reaktion aufeinander, um ein fertiges Werk zu erhalten, das keinen einzelnen Künstler, sondern ein kollektives Ganzes darstellt. Vom 13. bis 22. April 2017 war das “Taller Experimental de Gráfica de la Habana” Gastgeber des Projekts PRINTED IN CUBA. Die KünstlerInnen wurden durch die drei Meisterdrucker Ian Marcos, Pedro Redonet und Guillermo Vantour unterstützt. Die performative Einführung wurde von Maikel Rodríguez de la Cruz geführt. Das Projekt endete mit einer Ausstellung in der Galerie des “Taller Experimental de Gráfica de la Habana” bevor sie nach Zürich, Basel und San Francisco reiste. Die Ausstellung wurde von einem Videokunstprojekt von Mimi von Moos begleitet.
