This year, FIG Bilbao Print Festival was conducted online for the Cubos de las Tentaciones, a competition between students where they were assigned a space of a 2-meter cube to envision their artwork. Presentation of the artwork may be viewed here:

Students from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria and the University of Vilnius, Lithuania, participated in this year’s online edition which resulted in 2 winners: Elachi & James from Lithuania, and Alexander Lazarkov from Bulgaria.

Margarit Lehmann, representing Edition/Basel, was one of the 5 juries who selected the winners, presided over by Eugenia Griffero, the Director of FIG.

This summer, 2020, presented a challenge for our project: how shall we go on during a global pandemic? We decided to proceed with this year's sessions, creating a program that blended on-site and on-line participants. In this Process video, the artists of Edition/Basel 2020 Session 1 work together, remotely, on their exhibition DASEIN, opening at Salon Mondial at the Atelier Mondial on July 24, 2020.

FIG Bilbao, an international fair for printmaking and works on paper took place in the Palacio Euskalduna from November 14th to 17th, 2019. Edition/Basel was present with an exhibition stand, represented by Margarit Lehmann, who took part in the networking program, presenting the Edition/Basel program and speaking with art students and members of various institutions. Together with Marta Raczek, (Printrienale Krakow, Poland), Pedro Galilea, (Fundacion CIEC, Coruna, Spain) and David Arteagoitia (Editions 4/4, Bilbao, Spain), Margarit Lehmann was also a part of the jury for the award of the CIEC prize for the Argentine project “Cubos de las Tentaciones” by the Foundation ACE (Contemporary Art of Argentina).

Artists working in intaglio, relief, lithography and letterpress techniques will be selected to participate in 2 sessions at the Druckwerk Printmaking Studio in central Basel, Switzerland. Each session is a 12-day program consisting of 10 artists. Session 1 runs from July 15 to July 26, 2020, concluding with an exhibition at the Salon Mondial at Atelier Mondial Basel. Session 2 runs from July 29 to August 9, 2020, concluding with an exhibition at the Basler Papiermühle Museum. Exhibition project themes are chosen collaboratively, and interpreted individually or collectively by participants during their time in the workshop. The project is a platform for experimentation, in which novel ways of working are discovered by the group.

Basic materials (ink, tarlatan, rags, etc) are included in the fee. A good selection of paper, linoleum, and other materials is available for purchase directly from the print shop. Limited housing available, please enquire. We encourage artists traveling within Europe to come by train, with a 50 CHF discount.
